A 43-year-old man was shot once in the head and killed inside a home in Philadelphia's Logan neighborhood Wednesday afternoon, according to police. Officers responding to the 4600 block of North 15th Street found him dead inside the residence, with a gun recovered at the scene and no arrests announced.
Officers were called to the block at around 3:59 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 14, police told NBC10 Philadelphia. When they arrived, they found the man shot once in the head inside a home on the block. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:17 p.m., police said.
Police said the scene was being held for a homicide investigation and confirmed that a gun was recovered there. As of the time of the report, no arrests had been announced in connection with the shooting.
A Second Fatal Home Shooting in Logan
Wednesday's shooting is not the only recent case in which Philadelphia police have investigated a deadly shooting inside a Logan home. In a separate incident, officers were called to the 1300 block of Rockland Street just after 9 p.m. on a Sunday and found a 27-year-old man who had been shot multiple times in a third-floor bedroom, according to 6abc. That man was also pronounced dead at the scene.
Logan has also seen other recent gun violence. In July, a man was shot and killed inside a deli in the neighborhood, with police later identifying the victim as 32-year-old Shawn Caddell of Philadelphia, per the station's earlier report. In that case, the Philadelphia Police Department said no arrests had been made and no weapon had been recovered, and investigators released surveillance images of a person sought in what they described as a fatal robbery homicide.
Citywide Homicide Numbers Show a Decline, With Caveats
The Wednesday shooting comes as citywide homicide figures in Philadelphia have trended downward this year, though the available numbers vary by source and reporting date. CBS News Philadelphia reported 21 homicides citywide so far in 2026, compared with 48 at the same point the previous year, a 56% decrease, with the city's 16th police district reporting zero homicides this year compared with five by the same date in 2025.
Separately, The Trace reported that Philadelphia had recorded 93 homicides through July 12, down 23% from the same period in 2025 and nearly 70% from 2021. The Philadelphia Police Department's own crime-statistics page separately listed 136 homicides as of Oct. 13, with a 23.16% year-to-date decrease. The figures reflect different dates and sources and should not be treated as directly comparable.
The Trace also reported that Philadelphia's homicide clearance rate has nearly doubled over the past decade, rising from 45% in 2016 to 82% last year, while the clearance rate for nonfatal shootings climbed 15 percentage points to more than 40%. Those gains followed the 2022 launch of the police department's Shooting Investigation Group, which was created to direct more resources toward solving nonfatal shootings, according to the outlet.
The Philadelphia Police Department is asking anyone with information about Wednesday's shooting to call 215-686-TIPS (8477) or submit a tip online.
