A 47-year-old man was hospitalized overnight after being shot in the lower extremities near a North Side intersection, and San Antonio police have detained two people, including a 44-year-old man, as they try to piece together what happened. Investigators say it's still unclear whether either person will face charges.
Officers were dispatched to East Fredericksburg Road and North Flores Street at about 10:21 p.m. Saturday, according to WOAI. Police described the call as an actively moving disturbance reportedly involving a knife. Officers later located the wounded man — referred to in police accounts as the complainant — at North Frio Street and Ruiz Street.
Victim Taken to Hospital With Leg Wound
The man had suffered an apparent gunshot wound to his lower extremities and was taken to a local hospital for treatment, the station's report notes. What exactly led up to the shooting remains unknown, and police have not said whether the knife reportedly involved in the earlier disturbance was connected to the gunfire. Two suspects were detained at the scene for further investigative purposes, including the 44-year-old man named as a suspect, per the same account.
Police have not clarified whether either of the two detained individuals has been formally charged, and the investigation remains active and ongoing. Details in the case may change as more information becomes available, the outlet reported.
Part of a Rougher Year for San Antonio Violence
The shooting lands amid a year that has already seen a rise in homicides reported to the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, which recorded 16 homicides compared with nine during the same period the previous year, according to KSAT. San Antonio Police Department records cited in that same report showed 59 murders citywide so far that year, down from 68 at the same point in 2025. KSAT also reported that the city saw at least six homicides in a single month, including one shooting involving an officer.
That same KSAT report detailed other recent North Side violence, including a 24-year-old man found with a gunshot wound to the head inside a home near NW 26th Street and Poplar Street, who later died, and a shooting at a Northwest Side apartment complex on Woodstone Drive that left an 18-year-old dead and one other man injured. Those cases remain separate from Saturday's shooting near East Fredericksburg Road.
The City of San Antonio maintains public dashboards tracking public safety data, and SAPD reports crime figures to the National Incident-Based Reporting System as required by law, according to the City of San Antonio. No further details about the condition of the man hospitalized Saturday night, the identities of those detained, or a motive for the shooting have been released. Police say the investigation is ongoing.
