Part of a String of North Las Vegas Shootings
Thursday's shooting adds to a string of gun violence in the same corridor of North Las Vegas in recent memory. Last year, one person died following a shooting at Aliante Casino early one Thursday morning, with detectives and crime scene investigators processing that scene in the early stages of the investigation, as FOX5 Vegas reported at the time. A separate shooting was also reported in a grocery-store parking lot near North Aliante Parkway and Deer Springs Way, according to 8 News Now, which noted that medical personnel took the wounded man to a hospital in critical condition while the suspect remained at the scene and was taken into custody.
Homicide Numbers Show Mixed Trends
The fatal shooting comes as North Las Vegas police have been touting broader declines in violent crime. The department has said homicides decreased by 6 percent in 2025, according to News 3 Las Vegas, which also reported that shoplifting rose 6 percent even as arrests tied to shoplifting climbed more than 60 percent, and that traffic collisions and fatalities both fell sharply last year. The Las Vegas Review-Journal, however, reported that the agency recorded 28 homicides in 2025, down slightly from 29 in 2024 and 31 in 2023 — a count that frames the year-over-year change differently than the percentage cited elsewhere, with the two figures attributed here to their respective sources.
The Review-Journal also reported that domestic violence-related homicides in North Las Vegas dropped from 12 in 2024 to six last year, while juvenile homicide victims fell from five to three and juvenile homicide suspects dropped from five to just one over the same period. Nine homicide cases from 2025 in the department's jurisdiction remained unsolved as of mid-February, the newspaper reported, and the department logged three officer-involved shootings last year, matching the total from 2024.
Thursday's case remains under investigation, and North Las Vegas police have not indicated when they expect to release additional details about the victim or the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
