A man was rushed to the hospital Thursday night after being shot in the chest on West Broadway in Louisville, with police saying his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. Officers found him suffering from the gunshot wound in the 3400 block of West Broadway after responding to reports of a shooting, and the suspect had already fled by the time they arrived.
Louisville Metro Police said the man was hospitalized after being shot in the chest, though accounts of exactly where the shooting happened differ. According to WLKY, the shooting took place in the Shawnee neighborhood, while wdrbwave.com reported the man was shot in the Chickasaw neighborhood. Both outlets place the incident on or near the 3400 block of West Broadway.
Per the station's report, officers responded to the reported shooting around 7 p.m. and found the victim with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to UofL Hospital, where his injuries are considered non-life-threatening, the same account notes.
Suspect Fled Before Officers Arrived
Police said the person responsible for the shooting ran from the scene before officers got there, leaving investigators without a suspect in custody. LMPD's Non-Fatal Shooting Unit has taken over the case and is working to determine what led to the shooting.
As is standard in these cases, LMPD is asking anyone with information to come forward. The department asked residents to call the anonymous tip line at 502-574-LMPD or submit information through its online crime tip portal, per the same account.
Part of a Broader Pattern on West Broadway
Shootings in the Shawnee area are not new to Louisville police. In October 2026, one man was injured in a shooting in Louisville's Shawnee neighborhood, according to WLKY.
City data paints a broader picture of where violence tends to concentrate across Louisville. A Louisville Metro citywide map shows that areas making up just 7% of the city's population accounted for more than 40% of homicides and non-fatal shootings between 2020 and 2025, according to LouisvilleKY.gov. The city also maintains a gun violence dashboard, updated daily with information on shootings and homicides broken down by neighborhood, council district and police district.
No arrests have been announced in Thursday's shooting, and investigators have not released details about the victim's identity or a possible motive. LMPD's Non-Fatal Shooting Unit continues to investigate as it works to track down the person responsible.
