A man in his early 30s was shot multiple times on Spring Street in Jacksonville's Lackawanna neighborhood and then crashed his car a short distance away on McDuff Avenue North, where employees of a nearby business found him and called 911. He was taken to a local hospital in critical but stable condition as detectives worked to piece together what happened.
According to wokv.com, the victim suffered several gunshot wounds to several areas of his body before losing control of his vehicle. Investigators determined the shooting itself happened in the 100 block of Spring Street, with the crash occurring nearby on McDuff Avenue. Action News Jax first reported the incident Sunday night.
Crash Site Pinpointed Near Beaver Street
Per news4jax.com, the victim's vehicle crashed on McDuff Avenue North near Beaver Street. It was employees at a nearby business who spotted him inside the wrecked car and dialed 911, setting off the emergency response that got him to the hospital.
As of Sunday, detectives had been unable to speak with the victim, and no suspect description was available, the station's report noted. Investigators said they believe the shooting to be an isolated incident, though the circumstances that led up to it remain unclear.
Detectives Canvass for Surveillance Footage
Crime Scene detectives processed the Spring Street location for evidence while Robbery and Violent Crime Unit detectives interviewed witnesses, canvassed the area for surveillance video and followed up on investigative leads, per the same account. Police have asked anyone with information to come forward.
The Lackawanna shooting adds to a difficult stretch for Jacksonville, where police said separately that they were investigating five shootings and the death of a man found inside a vehicle in incidents across the city since the weekend, according to wokv.com. That report described violence leaving seven people shot or dead in incidents spanning multiple neighborhoods, with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office and Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responding to six scenes between Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.
It has not been established whether the Spring Street shooting is connected to any of those other incidents. A similar pattern played out in June, when the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said two separate Westside shootings left two men dead and another person in critical condition, according to news4jax.com.
