A separate account from KLAS 8 News Now likewise notes that police reported the driver showed no signs of impairment.
North Las Vegas police responded to the report of a pedestrian crash near Cheyenne Avenue and Revere Street, per KLAS's account. The man's identity, along with the official cause and manner of death, is expected to be released by the Clark County coroner's office, which has not yet made that information public.
A Stretch of Road With a Troubled History
Sunday's fatality adds to a string of deadly pedestrian crashes along Cheyenne Avenue in recent years. In November 2024, a pedestrian was struck and killed by a semi-truck near Cheyenne Avenue and Pecos Road, according to News 3 Las Vegas. Police said that victim had been crossing on a green light and was hit after stopping to pick up belongings she had dropped.
In 2023, another North Las Vegas pedestrian died in a suspected hit-and-run near East Cheyenne Avenue and Van Der Meer Street, the Review-Journal reported in earlier coverage. The pedestrian was outside a marked crosswalk when she was struck, and the driver fled.
What Nevada Law Says About Drivers and Pedestrians
Nevada law lays out specific obligations for drivers and pedestrians sharing the road. Under the Nevada Legislature's traffic code, NRS 484B.280 spells out a driver's duties to pedestrians, including additional penalties if a driver is found to be the proximate cause of a pedestrian collision, while NRS 484B.270 establishes a driver's duty of due care. The code's NRS 484B.287 also addresses when pedestrians must yield to vehicles and when crossing specifically at a marked crosswalk is required. It remains unclear how, or whether, any of those provisions apply to Sunday's crash.
