A man was recovering at a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after a shooting Tuesday morning in the 2300 block of Fairfield Avenue in Richmond. Police said officers were called to the scene around 9:47 a.m. and found the victim before rushing him to a local hospital.
Details about the shooting remain limited. According to WTVR CBS 6, officers responding to the report found the man who had been shot and transported him to the hospital. Initial reports indicated life-threatening injuries, but the station later updated its report to say he was recovering in an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. As of the station's report, police had not released any additional information about the victim's identity or about potential suspects.
Investigation Still in Early Stages
The shooting remains under investigation, per the same account, with no word yet on a motive, a weapon, or whether anyone has been taken into custody. The lack of detail leaves many of the basic questions surrounding Tuesday's shooting unanswered for now.
This is not the first time gunfire has struck this stretch of Fairfield Avenue. Last December, Richmond police responded to the same 2300 block for a shooting that left 35-year-old Richmond resident Travis Logan-Baker unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound, according to WRIC ABC 8News. Logan-Baker was pronounced dead at the scene.
Pattern of Violence Along the Corridor
The East End street has seen other violent incidents as well. In July, officers responded to the 2800 block of Fairfield Avenue for a report of a possible carjacking and shooting that left a teenager fighting for his life, WRIC ABC 8News reported at the time.
Richmond police maintain public listings tracking homicides across the city, according to the Richmond Police Department, which include past cases tied to the Fairfield Avenue area. No comprehensive, verified count of shootings specifically on this corridor has been established, and Tuesday's shooting remains under investigation, with its relationship to those earlier cases unclear.
Anyone with information about Tuesday's shooting has not yet been given a specific way to come forward, as police have not released further details on the investigation. Hoodline will update this story as more information becomes available.
