A man’s body was pulled from the Bronx River inside the New York Botanical Garden on Thursday, after emergency crews rushed to the scene following a 911 call reporting a body in the water just before noon. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene, and his identity has not yet been released.
According to News12, the body was found near Southern Boulevard and Xavier Way, within the grounds of the botanical garden. The NYPD said paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene, and his approximate age was not immediately known. His identity remains pending family notification, the outlet reported.
Cause of Death Still Unclear
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is expected to determine the cause and manner of death, per the same report. No further details on how the man ended up in the river have been released, and News12 said it was still awaiting a statement from the New York Botanical Garden.
Thursday’s discovery came just a day after another body was pulled from Bronx waters. On Wednesday, an unidentified man was found dead in the water at Ferry Point Park near the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge, according to Newsday. Police had responded around 9:45 a.m. to a 911 call reporting an unconscious person at the park, under the bridge, and EMS pronounced him dead at the scene.
A Separate Case, Still Unresolved
In that Ferry Point Park case, the city Office of the Chief Medical Examiner had not determined a cause of death, and police said the investigation remained ongoing, Newsday reported. The two incidents, days apart, are separate cases with no confirmed connection between them based on available reporting.
Bronx waterways have been the site of other grim discoveries this year. In July, a man was found dead in a marsh along the Hutchinson River, his body discovered around 7:50 a.m. behind a city Department of Transportation facility on Connor Street near Peartree Avenue in Co-Op City, according to the New York Daily News. That man, too, had not been identified at the time of the report.
As of Thursday, the man found in the Bronx River at the botanical garden had not been identified, and the circumstances surrounding his death remained under review by the medical examiner’s office.
