A man was shot to death Wednesday evening in the parking lot of a south Fort Worth apartment complex, and as of Wednesday night, no suspect had been arrested. Officers were dispatched about 6:30 p.m. to the 2600 block of Swale Drive, inside the Stallion Pointe Apartments complex, where they found the victim in the driver’s seat of a car suffering from a gunshot wound.

First responders administered medical care at the scene, but the man was pronounced dead there, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Police have not released the victim’s identity, and no information about a possible motive, suspect description or witnesses has been made public.

No Arrests, Few Details Released

Fort Worth police have not said whether they have identified a suspect or a motive in Wednesday’s shooting. The department is asking anyone with information to come forward, either by calling the Fort Worth Police Department at 817-392-4222 or by reaching out to Tarrant County Crime Stoppers at 817-469-8477.

The case adds to a string of violent incidents that have rattled parts of Fort Worth in recent months. In September, a quadruple shooting in the city’s southeast side left two men dead and two others wounded after a large backyard gathering turned violent, according to CBS News Texas. That shooting, which happened around 3:30 a.m. in the 4300 block of Martin Street, began with a fight between a man and a woman that escalated after another man intervened; police said four men in total were wounded after two men pulled guns and opened fire.

A City Grappling With Rising Gun Violence

Fort Worth saw notable swings in gun violence in 2024. Police reported eight people killed by gun violence in the 30-day period from May 7 to June 6, compared with just one homicide in the preceding month-long stretch from April 7 to May 6, according to NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth. Five of those eight homicides came within the final 10 days of that period, the station reported.

By comparison, Dallas police reported 19 homicides in both that same May 7-June 6 window and the month before it, according to the same NBC 5 report. Fort Worth police told the station they have leaned on Flock license-plate-reading cameras and roughly five square miles of gunshot-audio detectors deployed around the city to help identify shootings and track down suspects, though it remains unknown whether either tool played any role in Wednesday’s investigation at Stallion Pointe Apartments.

For now, the shooting on Swale Drive remains an open case with no one in custody. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Fort Worth Police Department or Tarrant County Crime Stoppers.
