A man is receiving treatment in the hospital after being shot in the torso Thursday night in Anderson, and as of Friday morning, police still have not identified who pulled the trigger. Officers were called to the Washington Heights area, about a block from Jim Rice Park, but by the time they arrived, the victim had already been taken to the hospital.

According to WYFF, Anderson police said officers responded to the scene just before 11 p.m. Thursday, but the victim had already been taken to AnMed for treatment before they got there. Police reported that one man was shot in the torso and is receiving treatment at the hospital, though his condition has not been detailed publicly.

Suspect Remains a Mystery

As of Friday at 9:15 a.m., police said the suspect had not yet been identified.

Anderson police are asking anyone with information to come forward, either through the department's tipline or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-866-917-8477.

Pattern of Unresolved Shootings in Anderson

Thursday's shooting isn't the city's first unresolved case to leave a victim at AnMed with no named suspect. In a separate incident reported by Fox Carolina, officers responded to Caughlin Avenue shortly after 11 p.m. after a victim suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was taken to AnMed for treatment; police said at the time they were following strong leads toward identifying that suspect.

Another report from WSPA described a shooting at Jefferson Apartments on Jefferson Avenue in which 45-year-old Kevin Edwards was injured and later died at AnMed from his injuries. That same report noted another person was shot in the abdomen on Caughlin Avenue and taken to AnMed for treatment, including surgery, with their status unknown at the time. Investigators said the two shootings were not thought to be connected and told WSPA they had leads on a potential suspect.

For now, Thursday night's shooting near Jim Rice Park adds another open case to Anderson police's workload, with no suspect named and the investigation continuing.
