A man was shot in Arlington's Green Valley neighborhood shortly before midnight on Wednesday, running to a nearby home for help as the shooter escaped before officers could arrive. He was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and remained in stable condition, while several unoccupied vehicles nearby were also struck by gunfire.
According to ArlNow, the shooting happened in the area of South Lowell Street and South Lincoln Street. A preliminary investigation from WJLA found that the man was outside near that intersection when he was shot, and police said officers were dispatched to the 2400 block of South Lowell Street at about 11:48 p.m. Responding officers located the wounded man inside a nearby residence, where he had run seeking help, and provided medical aid before medics took him to the hospital.
Victim Expected to Recover After Fleeing to Nearby Home
Police said the victim was in stable condition following treatment for his injuries, and WJLA reported he was expected to recover. The same report noted that several cars were hit by gunfire during the shooting, while ArlNow's account specified that the damaged vehicles were unoccupied at the time.
The shooter fled the scene before officers arrived, and police searched the area without locating him. Detectives were still investigating the circumstances of the shooting, per the same ArlNow report. No details about the shooter's identity, motive or weapon have been released.
Second Green Valley Shooting Report in Three Months
This marks the second shooting reported in Green Valley in recent months. In August, a male suspect fired a gun outside a residential building in the 2400 block of South Shirlington Road at around 3:30 a.m., fleeing before a witness reported the gunfire just before 10 a.m., according to ArlNow's earlier coverage. Police described that suspect as a Black male wearing all-black clothing, and no one was hurt and no property was damaged in that incident. The investigation into that August shooting remained ongoing, the outlet reported at the time.
The neighborhood also saw a more serious police response in October 2022, when officers were dispatched to the 2100 block of Shirlington Road for a report of multiple shots fired. That encounter ended with two Arlington police officers discharging their weapons after a suspect refused commands to drop his firearm and raised it, injuring the suspect, ArlNow reported. No officers or community members were hurt in that 2022 incident. It is not known whether Wednesday's shooting is connected to either earlier case.
