A security guard shot a man outside Paradise Lounge early Sunday after the man allegedly returned to the club and displayed a handgun, Memphis police said, according to WREG. Officers responded around 4:30 a.m. to the 5900 block of Winchester Road in Hickory Hill and found the man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to Regional One Medical Center and was expected to survive.

WREG reported that the guard told police he had first instructed the man to put away a black handgun of unknown caliber. The man walked away, then returned and displayed the gun again, the guard said; the guard fired one shot. WREG reported that the guard had a valid armed guard license. This account is attributed to the guard through police reporting; it is not, by itself, a final determination of what happened.

During the investigation, officers questioned three men near a black Honda Civic. WREG reported that a security officer told police the men and car had been with the wounded man, while the men denied owning the car. When officers attempted to detain one of them, he allegedly pulled a handgun from his waistband and tossed it to another man. Police seized a Glock 19 with an extended magazine, and the guard and the three men were taken to the Violent Crimes Unit for questioning, WREG reported. The account provided does not establish whether anyone was charged in connection with Sunday’s shooting.

Separate shootings on the same corridor

The Sunday shooting is separate from the fatal shooting of Paradise Lounge security guard Drugy Santana on July 12, 2026. In a report published July 15, WREG said Dewuan Harris, 36, was captured by the Memphis Police Department’s Fugitive Unit and charged with first-degree murder, three counts of attempted murder and use of a firearm in a dangerous felony. That earlier case involved a death at Paradise Lounge; Sunday’s injured man was expected to survive.

Other reported shootings were at different Winchester Road locations. Memphis Police said a shooting at Crazy Mexican, 6433 Winchester Road, on August 30 left one person dead; a second victim was hospitalized in non-critical condition, and two additional people were struck by gunfire. In a separate report, WREG said a man died after a shooting at 6761 Winchester Road, an address it identified as Echelon Bar & Grill, on October 15.

These cases document shootings at Paradise Lounge and other venues along Winchester Road, but they are distinct incidents at different addresses and on different dates. They provide local context, not evidence on their own that shootings are becoming more frequent or that the cases are connected.
