A 38-year-old Manassas man is being held without bond after police say he called a Prince William County juvenile detention center overnight and threatened to blow it up, then assaulted officers who showed up to take him into custody. Peshwaz Azad Waise now faces a threats-to-bomb charge along with three counts of assault and battery on a law-enforcement officer.

Threatening Call Came In Before Dawn

According to Daily Voice, officers were first called to the Prince William County Juvenile Detention Center in the 14800 block of Dumfries Road in Manassas shortly before 2:15 a.m. Thursday after someone reported a threatening phone call. Investigators say Waise was the one who called the facility and threatened to blow it up.

Police tracked Waise down at his Manassas home, where he was detained, the outlet's report states. As officers moved to escort him to a patrol cruiser, police say he became aggressive and assaulted officers multiple times. No injuries were reported, according to the same report.

Charges and Custody Status

Waise was charged with three counts of assault and battery on a law-enforcement officer along with threats to bomb. He is being held without bond pending his next court appearance, per the report.

Virginia's threats-to-bomb statute, Virginia Code § 18.2-83, covers threats to bomb, damage, or discharge a firearm within or at buildings or means of transportation, as well as spreading false information about danger to such locations. The statute's available text identifies the offense as a Class 5 felony, with an exception carved out for people under 18.

Not the Facility's First Bomb-Threat Case

This isn't the first time the Prince William County Juvenile Detention Center has been tied to a bomb-threat case. In February 2023, a 15-year-old Potomac High School student from Woodbridge was arrested and charged with threats to bomb after leaving a suspiciously wrapped package on a teacher's desk, according to WTOP. Police in that earlier case determined the package contained no bomb and posed no threat to the school, and the teenager was held at the same juvenile detention center pending a court date.
