A 61-year-old woman was robbed shortly before 5 a.m. Monday while waiting for a Bx24/Bx38 bus outside a bowling alley at 1215 Gun Hill Road in the Bronx, according to amNewYork. Four people on motorcycles approached Juliet Sabah, the report said. Sabah told the outlet the attackers threatened and beat her before taking her purse.
Police Describe Robbery Before Dawn
Police sources said the suspects wore black clothing and face masks, displayed firearms and punched Sabah; one struck her in the face with a gun, according to amNewYork. The suspects took her purse, debit card and about $100 in cash.
Sabah was taken to Jacobi Hospital with injuries that included a lacerated lip, and officers from the NYPD's 47th Precinct responded, amNewYork reported. In comments to the outlet, Sabah said she remained in pain and was afraid to take the bus. Her daughter said Sabah had called for help during the attack and feared she would die.
Family Helps Sabah Recover
Sabah, who works as a cleaner, is originally from Ghana and has lived in the United States for more than two decades, according to the same report. Her daughter said the attackers also took her mother's medication, leaving the family scrambling; she plans to accompany Sabah to the doctor to get a new prescription. Sabah is now too afraid to ride the bus alone, so her daughter has started riding with her.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation continues, amNewYork reported. Other recent reports describe robberies in the borough involving suspects on two wheels, but they do not establish a connection to Sabah's case. In September, News 12 Bronx reported that investigators were seeking suspects in 26 chain-snatching robberies across Manhattan and the Bronx between June and August. Police said the suspects rode two mopeds, wore ski masks and targeted victims' jewelry. The first reported incident was June 29 and the latest was August 21, in front of 3377 Sedgwick Avenue, according to News 12 Bronx.
Other Reported Robberies Involved Two-Wheelers
On October 2, an off-duty NYPD detective was stabbed up to seven times during a robbery near East 208th Street and Steuben Avenue in Norwood, according to the New York Daily News. Two suspects fled on a motorized bike after taking a gold chain from the detective, the newspaper reported. No connection has been confirmed between that case, the chain-snatching robberies and the attack on Sabah.

NYPD CompStat data showed that robbery complaints in the 47th Precinct were down 20.2% year to date through October 25, 2026, compared with the same period in 2025: 324 complaints versus 406, according to NYPD CompStat.
