A 44-year-old Mastic man was sentenced Friday to six years in prison after admitting he sexually abused three young girls, ages 7, 9 and 11, during separate shopping trips to the same T.J. Maxx in Medford last year. Jimmy Velasquez Gomez pleaded guilty to three counts of first-degree sexual abuse and now faces a decade of court supervision once he gets out — along with the likelihood of immigration proceedings.
Velasquez Gomez received three concurrent six-year prison terms followed by 10 years of post-release supervision, according to Patch. The sentence came after he accepted a plea deal in August, which Daily Voice reports he formally entered on Aug. 27 to resolve all three cases at once. He must also register as a sex offender in New York, per prosecutors.
Three Separate Attacks Inside the Same Store
The abuse stretched across much of 2025, with investigators saying Velasquez Gomez returned to the same Medford store to target his victims. On April 19, 2025, he squeezed a 7-year-old girl's buttocks with his hand, according to investigators cited by the same report. Months later, on Sept. 20, 2025, he grabbed an 11-year-old girl's buttocks after she spotted him holding his genitals through his clothes, the district attorney's office said.
The final incident happened on Oct. 29, 2025, when Velasquez Gomez pulled up a 9-year-old girl's sweatshirt and squeezed her buttocks in a store aisle, prosecutors said. Authorities said police also observed him touching his genitals over his clothes while looking at that same 9-year-old victim. Suffolk County police told investigators that surveillance footage placed Velasquez Gomez inside the store during all three incidents, the station's report notes.
Arrest, Custody and an Immigration Detainer
Velasquez Gomez was arrested Nov. 1, 2025, in East Islip and has remained in custody since then, per the same account. The court issued full stay-away orders of protection for all three victims as part of Friday's sentencing.
ICE has lodged a detainer seeking custody of Velasquez Gomez following completion of his prison sentence, according to Patch. The Department of Homeland Security said on Nov. 18, 2025, that it had lodged an arrest detainer for Jimmy Harry Velasquez Gomez, describing him as a twice-deported Honduran national facing multiple child-sex-abuse charges, per the Department of Homeland Security.
Velasquez Gomez is expected to face deportation to Honduras upon his release, according to federal officials. The six-year sentence closes out a case that spanned more than a year, from the first reported incident last April to Friday's sentencing in Suffolk County.
