Downtown Medina is bracing for a broomstick invasion later this month, as Main Street Medina gears up for its annual Witches Night Out on Oct. 22, complete with a choreographed flash mob dance, costume contests and a free party limo.

The event, organized by Main Street Medina, invites women to don witch costumes for an evening of spooky activities centered on Medina's Public Square, according to Cleveland.com. Executive Director George Sam told the outlet the night will feature a witch's dance sponsored by Access the Arts, kicking off at 8 p.m. It is a witch's dance.

Getting the choreography right took some practice. Per Sam, women participating in the dance have been rehearsing ahead of the big night. An Oct. 3 rehearsal at Thirsty Cowboy was also on the schedule.

A Night of Costumes, Samples and Pop-Up Treats

Beyond the dance itself, the evening will include costume contests, group photos at Huntington Bank, and a mini salon set up at the VCS pop-up shop, per Cleveland.com's reporting. Participating businesses will hand out samples, giveaways and specials throughout the night, and attendees can collect a passport for a chance to win prizes, Sam said. Kids' activities and a free party limo round out the offerings, with the whole affair unfolding across historic downtown Medina.

The Oct. 22 lineup includes a Witches Dance that will be performed as a flash mob. A pop-up salon is also planned at the VCS pop-up shop.

A Nonprofit Built on Arts Access

Access the Arts, the nonprofit sponsoring the witches dance, was founded in 2018 as an Ohio 501(c)(3) based in Sharon Center, delivering free arts, music and dance programming to underserved groups across Medina County, according to the organization's own account.

Sam himself has drawn regional recognition for his work leading these kinds of downtown events. He was named Heritage Ohio's Main Street Manager of the Year in late 2025 for his leadership in downtown revitalization and historic preservation, according to a Facebook post from Medina Weekly Ohio.

Ladies Night Out Has a Long Track Record in Medina

Witches Night Out is the latest entry in Main Street Medina's recurring Ladies Night Out tradition, which Cleveland.com reports has been a fixture downtown for many years and has drawn upwards of 1,000 people to the square on a Thursday evening. The organization's most recent themed night, Mrs. Roper's Romp in July, leaned into 1970s sitcom nostalgia, with women wearing red wigs and caftans for the occasion, per Cleveland.com.

That July event also spun off a companion gathering called Stanley Roper's Night Out at Buffalo Wild Wings, which offered dedicated party limo transport for men, as the Medina Gazette reported at the time. It's the kind of inclusive secondary programming Main Street Medina has built around its theme nights, pairing the main event with a parallel option for a broader crowd.

Witches Night Out is just one stop on Main Street Medina's year-round calendar of downtown gatherings, which also includes Restaurant Week and Candlelight Walk, according to the group's events listing. Together, the recurring lineup is designed to keep foot traffic flowing to local shopkeepers across the seasons, with Witches Night Out offering downtown Medina one more reason to light up on a fall evening.
