Travelers passing through Charlotte-Douglas International Airport are getting a new pizza option in 2027. Mellow Mushroom has signed an agreement to open a full-service restaurant there, and it will be the first time the chain has set up shop in any airport.

The deal was announced Tuesday, and WBTV reports that the airport restaurant will include a bar and a takeout counter. It will also be open for breakfast, which is not what most people picture when they think of a pizza joint.

What We Know, and What We Don't

Details are thin so far. The station's account notes that the news release did not say exactly when in 2027 the restaurant would open, nor where it would be located within the airport.

That leaves plenty of open questions for hungry fliers. Nothing has been made public yet about the terminal or concourse, the menu or the hours.

Charlotte Already Knows the Brand

This won't be the chain's debut in the Queen City. The report says Charlotte already has two Mellow Mushroom locations, one a couple of blocks from Bank of America Stadium in Uptown and the other in Ballantyne.

The pizza chain also has restaurants in Hickory, Boone, Blowing Rock and elsewhere across the Carolinas. One of the Charlotte locations, at 255 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., was announced as a new opening in a Pizza Marketplace report, which described it as the third Mellow Mushroom for its franchise group.

A Busy Airport to Feed

The new restaurant will land in a very crowded terminal environment. Charlotte's airport announced that it welcomed 53.6 million passengers in 2025, its second-busiest year on record.
