A 22-year-old woman with multiple mental health conditions went missing from the Wellington Square neighborhood of Mid-City in late May. Kali Elizabeth Gammie disappeared on May 26 and was later located.
Photos Circulated in Gammie's Missing-Person Case
Gammie was last seen around 11 p.m. on May 26 in the 2100 block of South Victoria Avenue, a stretch of Mid-City located one block west of Crenshaw Boulevard and just north of the Santa Monica (I-10) Freeway, according to MyNewsLA.com. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department circulated photos of Gammie.
When deputies went public with Gammie's case, the description they circulated was specific: a 5-foot-2, 120-pound White woman with brown eyes and short brown hair featuring blond tips, last seen wearing gray pants and a blue shirt. The Sheriff's Information Bureau reported her last-seen date, time, and location, per the same account.
How California Law Treats At-Risk Missing Adults
California law includes a framework for at-risk missing-person cases. The California Penal Code Section 14211 addresses missing-person reports, while a San Francisco Police Department general order references Section 14215 and lists mental impairment and medical need among examples of at-risk cases.
Penal Code Section 14211(c) requires an immediate report and an assessment of reasonable steps to locate the person.
