A Minnesota crepe chain is setting its sights on Milwaukee, with plans to open a shop near the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee campus in the space once occupied by FreshFin Poké. Bonjour Crepes expects to open its doors at 1806 E. North Ave. around Nov. 15, marking the company's first location outside Minnesota.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported the move, noting that FreshFin Poké closed in that same North Avenue storefront in January. The new shop would become the fourth location for Bonjour Crepes, following stores in Edina and White Bear Lake, Minnesota, and a flagship that opened in Eagan in the summer of 2025, according to the Journal Sentinel.
From a Family Shop in France to a Minnesota Franchise
Bonjour Crepes is owned by David Lo, who was born and raised in France and learned to make crepes from his parents, who opened their own crepe shop when he was 10, the Journal Sentinel reports. Lo moved to Minnesota around 2016 and opened his first crepe shop, Paris Crepes, in 2023 before launching Bonjour Crepes, the outlet notes. He's now focused on franchising the concept, with a Chicago shop in the works and Lo looking at possible locations in Greenfield and Wauwatosa, per the same report.
Who will actually run the counter on North Avenue remains unclear. Kha Vang and Pahoua Yang, both of whom live in Milwaukee, will operate the Milwaukee store.
Sweet, Savory and Built for Late Nights Near Campus
Bonjour Crepes bills itself as a counter-service creperie and cafe specializing in made-to-order sweet and savory crepes, according to the company's own materials on bonjourcrepesmn.com. The chain's most popular flavors include the French Kiss, made with fresh strawberries, powdered sugar and whipped cream; La Française, loaded with bananas, blueberries and strawberries alongside Nutella, jam or dark chocolate sauce; and La Complète, a savory option with ham, bacon, chicken or turkey, mozzarella and a sunny-side-up or over-hard egg, per the Journal Sentinel.
The menu also includes Le Parisien, topped with sliced bananas and Nutella or dark chocolate; the Végétarienne, with vegetables, mozzarella and egg; and L'Italien, a pizza-style crepe piled with meat, vegetables, mozzarella and pizza sauce. Beyond crepes, Bonjour Crepes serves sweet waffles and croffles — a croissant-waffle hybrid — along with Thai and Vietnamese iced coffee and boba tea, the Journal Sentinel reports. A separate feature from Enjoy Eagan describes the original Eagan shop, located inside Twin Cities Premium Outlets, as also offering fresh-baked croissants alongside its waffles and craft coffee.
Given its location near the UWM campus, the Milwaukee shop is expected to open early with coffee and stay open late to catch students coming and going, likely opening around 7 or 8 a.m. and closing around 10 or 11 p.m., according to the Journal Sentinel's reporting. The shop plans to serve food fit for breakfast, lunch or dinner, and after its grand opening, Bonjour Crepes plans to add pastries and French-style sandwiches to the lineup, the outlet notes.
