A 14-year-old boy with autism who went missing Friday morning in northwest Harris County was found safe near Cypress Creek High School, authorities said. Click2Houston reported that deputies searched near the 6700 block of FM 1960 Road West beginning around 6 a.m. and located the teen roughly an hour later. The report said the search was then concluded.
Authorities have not explained how or why the boy went missing. The reported search details and safe recovery do not establish what happened before deputies began looking for him.
A separate county program for wandering risk
Harris County has a separate resource aimed at helping locate people who may wander. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office says Project Lifesaver International supports people prone to wandering because of cognitive disorders; Harris County CIT describes it as a program for people with certain cognitive disabilities who have a history of wandering from home.
The program is operated by the Sheriff’s Office, not the Constable Precinct 4 office involved in this search. Harris County CIT says it is available to residents in unincorporated areas patrolled by the Sheriff’s Office. The available information does not say whether the boy or his family took part, or whether the program would apply to them.
