A new organic grocery giant is staking its claim on York Road. MOM's Organic Market has signed a lease for about 14,690 square feet at Gittings Marketplace, with a store planned to open in spring 2027 at the shopping center located at 6300 York Road near Gittings Avenue, right on the line between Baltimore City and Baltimore County.
The move, first reported by WMAR 2 News, puts MOM's directly across the street from a future Trader Joe's, which is moving into the former Party City space at 6311 York Road in the Anneslie Shopping Center. Trader Joe's already lists that location as coming soon, though the company has not announced an exact opening date, according to the same report. MOM's founder and CEO Scott Nash said the company is expanding in the greater Baltimore area and bringing its approach to organic grocery shopping to more residents, per WMAR 2 News.
The new MOM's will sell certified organic produce, natural and organic groceries, and other everyday items, and is expected to operate from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday. It joins an existing Gittings Marketplace lineup that includes Five Guys, Qdoba, Vito's Pizza, and Wells Liquor Store.
A Corridor Already in Transformation
The timing lines up with a broader retail shakeup along York Road. Baltimore Fishbowl reports that Gittings Avenue and Walker Avenue mark the border between Baltimore City and Baltimore County along York Road, positioning Gittings Marketplace and Anneslie Shopping Center on a corridor that serves city neighborhoods like Cedarcroft and Lake Walker as well as county communities like Rodgers Forge and Anneslie. That geography helps explain why two specialty grocers are converging on essentially the same intersection.
Gittings Marketplace itself has a well-documented real estate history. Schwaber Holdings redeveloped the 6300 York Road site in 2006, and Gittings Marketplace is a 25,000-square-foot retail center, according to Schwaber Holdings. The landlord's footprint extends well beyond this one property, and the overlap matters: Gittings Marketplace co-tenant Vito's Pizza expanded to a second location at Yorkridge Shopping Center in Timonium last month, another Schwaber-owned property where MOM's Organic Market has operated an 11,000-square-foot store since 2011, as reported by Hoodline's earlier coverage of that center reaching full occupancy.
Who's Shopping There
The demographic case for the corridor is strong. Commercial leasing data for Gittings Marketplace shows the 1-mile radius surrounding the site has a population of more than 24,000 and a student population of over 38,000 spread across four nearby universities, per data from the Segall Group. The one-mile average household income is $127,800. That density of affluent households and college students has made the Anneslie-Gittings intersection an increasingly attractive target for specialty grocers chasing a built-in customer base on both sides of the city-county line.
