Berkeley County is throwing open the gates on its new $10.5 million Lake Moultrie waterfront park this Friday, giving Moncks Corner residents a long-awaited look at a 15-acre stretch of shoreline built where Atkins Landing and Lions Beach once stood. The grand opening is set for October 30, with the county inviting the community to come check out six boat ramps, a marina, a sandy beach and a rental pavilion all in one spot.

County officials announced the celebration for Berkeley County Waterfront Park, located at 933 Broughton Road in Moncks Corner, according to WCBD News 2. The site sits along Lake Moultrie on the former footprint of Atkins Landing and Lions Beach, per the county's own announcement.

The park totals roughly 15 acres of park and beach space along the lake, according to The Post and Courier. The project includes six boat ramps and parking for over 180 boat trailers, though ABC News 4 has described the lot as holding parking for over 180 trailers.

Marina, Beach and Trails Round Out the Site

Boaters will also find marina space for approximately 36 boats, according to the same ABC News 4 report. The broader build-out includes walking trails, an open-air pavilion, public restrooms and picnic shelters, the Post and Courier notes, alongside 58,000 square feet of beach.

Exactly how long that walking trail stretches depends on which outlet you ask: ABC News 4 has put it at 0.6 miles around the landing, while SC Biz has described it as a half-mile walking trail. Sources similarly differ on pavilion sizes, with SC Biz describing a 4,200-square-foot open-air pavilion alongside a separate remodeled 7,300-square-foot pavilion meant for rental opportunities.

The overall renovation carried a price tag of approximately $10.5 million, per the same ABC News 4 account. That investment followed a phased rollout: boat access opened first, with Berkeley County Government having announced plans to open public boat access back on May 15, before Lions Beach itself opened to the public on June 29, according to the Post and Courier.

Beach Fees and Hours Already in Place

For those planning a swim, the beach is open to the public. With boat ramps, beach access and now a formal grand opening, the park appears designed to handle everything from a quick afternoon dip to a full day on the water.

County leaders have also floated bigger plans for the grounds beyond boating and swimming. The Post and Courier reports the county intends to use the park for concerts, yoga on the lake, fishing tournaments and other community events. The park also has picnic shelters and a pavilion available for rent.

Friday's event marks the formal culmination of a project that has unfolded in stages throughout 2026, from the first boat ramps in spring to the beach opening over the summer. For Moncks Corner, it adds a fully built-out public gathering spot on Lake Moultrie where a patchwork of older landings and beach access once stood.
