
More than 5,600 Duke Energy customers were sitting without power Saturday afternoon across western North Carolina and the Upstate. Crews were working through estimated restoration windows that stretched from mid-afternoon into the early hours of Sunday morning.
According to FOX Carolina, Duke Energy reported that over 5,600 customers were without power Saturday afternoon in western North Carolina and the Upstate. The outages stretched across at least five counties, with totals and restoration estimates varying widely from one area to the next.
Outages in Buncombe County
FOX Carolina later listed 206 customers without power in Buncombe County at 5:26 a.m. Sunday. The county's estimated restoration time was Sunday.
The poweroutage.us tracker listed Haywood EMC as having the highest percentage of customers affected in Buncombe County in its October 11 snapshot. It ranked Buncombe County 16th in North Carolina for total outages and 28th for the percentage of customers affected.
Macon, Jackson Counties Also Facing Long Waits
Macon County had the second-highest outage count, with 1,169 customers without power as of 2:10 p.m. Saturday, the report noted. Restoration there was estimated for 11:36 p.m. Sunday, several hours after Buncombe County's projected timeline.
Jackson County had 231 customers without power at 5:26 a.m. Sunday.
Smaller Outages in the Upstate
Across the state line in South Carolina, outages were also reported in the Upstate.
The outages were spread unevenly across the coverage area. FOX Carolina said it would provide updates as they become available.
