A new chai shop is coming to one of Northwest Denver's most recognizable corners, with Mosaic Chai House planning to open at 4900 W. 46th Avenue in early January 2027, right across the street from Berkeley Lake Park. Owner Rajni Posner, a local Berkeley resident, envisions the space as a welcoming, all-ages neighborhood gathering place rather than just another coffee stop.
The building has deep roots in the neighborhood. According to WhatNow, Posner brings more than two decades of professional background in marketing, strategy, and brand building to the venture. The site previously housed For Heaven's Sake Metaphysical Store, which served North Denver for 26 years before consolidating operations at its Lakewood store.
From Metaphysical Shop to Mercantile Makeover
Converting the space is no small undertaking. Permitting records filed with the City of Denver show a commercial construction permit application to convert the 1942-built property from mercantile space to a coffee shop designed for more than 50 occupants, submitted by Michelle Miller of Jigsaw Design LLC alongside contractor Charles K. Chambers of Chamco Construction Inc. The 2,040-square-foot building sold in 2026 for $865,000.
Posner has said the space should be welcoming, warm, inviting and inclusive, and the menu reflects that ambition. Planned offerings include signature chais such as Masala, Turmeric, and Dirty Chai alongside savory items like eggplant and tandoori chicken roti wraps, chutney grilled cheese, mini samosas, and charcuterie boards. The shop also plans to serve coffee, beer and wine, rounding out a menu meant to draw visitors throughout the day.
More Than a Café
Mosaic Chai House is designed to be a family-friendly community destination for people of different ages and backgrounds, with plans to host board game nights, live music, and puzzle nights. The shop also plans to sell vintage clothing and distinctive finds, extending community connection beyond what's served at the counter. Updates on the opening are expected to be shared through the business's official website.
The location puts the chai house directly across from Berkeley Lake Park.
A Growing Food Scene Near Tennyson Street
The Tennyson Street commercial corridor spans 38th to 46th Avenues and is associated with walkability and local events. Food and beverage growth has been steady in Berkeley this year: Edgewater-based Black Box Bakery announced in August that it is opening a sit-down café in the former Suzette space, as Hoodline previously reported. With Mosaic Chai House joining that wave, Berkeley residents will soon have another reason to linger near the lake, the courts, and the corridor that ties the neighborhood together.
