A motorcyclist was critically injured Friday afternoon after a crash involving a silver Tesla Cybertruck in the northwest Las Vegas Valley, leaving the rider ejected from the bike and rushed to a local hospital. The Tesla driver walked away without injury.
Nevada Highway Patrol responded to the injury crash at 1:42 p.m. near northbound Durango Drive and the Clark County 215 beltway, according to KSNV. The crash involved the Cybertruck and a Suzuki motorcycle, and troopers say the rider was ejected and suffered critical injuries before being taken to a hospital. The Tesla driver remained at the scene with investigators, the station reports.
No Word Yet on Cause
Details on what led up to the collision have not been released, and it is not yet known whether any citation or further action resulted from the crash. The station's report does not specify the rider's condition beyond the initial critical injuries reported at the scene.
The crash adds to a troubling pattern for motorcyclists on Southern Nevada roads this year. Through Sept. 30, 43 motorcyclists had died on Clark County roadways, part of 149 total road deaths countywide — still a nearly 20% drop from the 186 deaths recorded over the same stretch in 2025, according to 8 News Now. Statewide, 261 people had died in 244 crashes by the end of September, a 9% decrease from the prior year, though Nevada actually saw an 11% uptick in September deaths alone, climbing to 30 from 27 a year earlier. The outlet notes the 2026 figures remain preliminary and won't be finalized until early 2028.
Motorcyclist Deaths Climbed in Early 2025
Earlier in 2025, Nevada motorcyclist fatalities were running well ahead of the pace in 2024. Of 93 fatal crashes reported statewide through the end of March, at least 21 involved a motorcyclist death, with 16 of those in Clark County alone, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. That marked a nearly 24% jump over the 17 riders killed during the same span in 2024. The paper also reported that an estimated 83 motorcyclists and 419 vehicle occupants died on Nevada roads last year, the deadliest year for the state's road users since 2006.
One of those earlier losses came in April, when 19-year-old Henderson resident Anthony Martinez died after his motorcycle crashed into several vehicles on Interstate 11 near the 215 Beltway, per the same Review-Journal report — a stretch of roadway not far from where Friday's crash unfolded.
Cybertrucks Have Figured in Other Fatal Collisions
Friday's crash also echoes a deadly collision in Fullerton, California, where a motorcyclist was killed after colliding with a Tesla Cybertruck, according to CBS News. Police said that crash happened around 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of West Orangethorpe Avenue and South Gilbert Street, when the eastbound rider collided with the side of a westbound Cybertruck that was turning south. No connection between the two incidents has been established beyond the shared circumstance of a motorcycle and Cybertruck colliding.
No further updates on the condition of the Las Vegas rider have been released, and Nevada Highway Patrol has not indicated whether charges or citations will follow as the investigation continues.
