A motorcycle and another vehicle collided near South Kolb Road and East Valencia Road in Tucson early Monday, leaving the motorcyclist with life-threatening injuries and snarling traffic across the busy southside intersection. The other driver stayed at the scene as investigators worked to piece together what happened.
According to the kgun9.com, the motorcyclist was reportedly taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries following the crash. The Pima County Sheriff's Department reported that the collision shut down a busy intersection, per KOLD, which also noted the crash involved a vehicle and a motorcycle.
Northbound Kolb Road was closed, along with the eastbound Valencia detour, as deputies worked the scene. The station's report indicates there was no estimated time of reopening while the investigation continued, and drivers were urged to avoid the area and expect delays.
What Led Up to the Collision Remains Unclear
Details on what caused Monday's crash have not been released, and the available reporting does not say whether speed, impairment, or any other factor played a role. It also isn't clear whether the other driver was hurt or whether any citations have been issued, and no information about the motorcyclist's identity or age has been made public.
This is not the first serious crash to snarl traffic at or near the Kolb and Valencia corridor. In February 2022, the Tucson Police Department said 24-year-old Daniel Paul Lecroy died at the scene after losing control of his motorcycle near the same intersection, according to kold.com. Detectives at the time believed Lecroy, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle and struck a drainage grate while driving south on Kolb Road; police said impairment appeared to be a factor and that his license was suspended without a motorcycle endorsement.
A Pattern of Closures Along the Same Stretch
More recently, a report published June 5, 2026, described a Friday-morning two-vehicle crash near South Kolb Road and East Valencia Road that diverted northbound traffic, according to kvoa.com.
The evidence does not establish that any of these earlier incidents are connected to Monday's crash. A separate motorcycle crash on the city's west side, near South Cardinal Avenue and West Valencia Road, also left a motorcyclist with life-threatening injuries; the closure of westbound Valencia at Cardinal Avenue was expected to last several hours, per the same outlet, underscoring how often motorcycle crashes have disrupted traffic across Tucson in recent months.
No further updates on the condition of Monday's motorcyclist or the status of the investigation were available as of publication. The roads reopened at about 11 a.m.
