An affiliate of Red Lab Logistics has purchased the former Liberty Tap Room & Grill building at 1028 Johnnie Dodds Blvd. in Mount Pleasant for $3.45 million, with plans to turn the long-vacant restaurant site into the fast-growing produce shipper's new headquarters. The sale closed on Oct. 14, and the company expects to complete its move across the harbor in early 2027.
Red Lab currently splits its operations between two leased office buildings about a block apart on Upper King Street in downtown Charleston, according to county property records cited by the Post and Courier. Co-founder Addison Miles said the company wants to reunite its employees under one roof and have room to keep expanding. Before moving in, Red Lab plans to renovate the 10,051-square-foot building. A previous owner converted the building into a multi-suite mixed-use setup in late 2021.
A Former Restaurant Property Finds New Life
The 1.26-acre site sits near Anna Knapp Boulevard and the Publix-anchored Queensborough Shopping Center, placing Red Lab's future home in one of Mount Pleasant's busier retail corridors.
The former restaurant site is vacant.
From USC Dorm Room to Inc. 5000 Honoree
Red Lab Logistics was founded in 2019 by Addison Miles, Nick Macuch and Toby Skarke, when all three were University of South Carolina students. The company specializes in transporting and delivering fresh produce and other perishable goods within the United States. Red Lab describes itself as a provider of third-party logistics and consulting services.
In 2025, Red Lab was named to the Inc. 5000, ranking No. 1,666.
Growth has continued since then. Red Lab achieved financial independence and became self-funded by the end of 2023, and it grew from around 100 loads in its first year to a projected nearly $50 million in revenue by the end of 2024, according to eCapital.
