Rock Bottom Bar opened for business on Oct. 15 at 15121 Wooster Road in Mount Vernon, capping a dream its owners had chased for more than 30 years. A ribbon-cutting ceremony followed the next day, officially welcoming the neighborhood watering hole to the north side of town.

Owners Dave and Angie bought the building north of Mount Vernon more than six years before opening, according to Your Ohio News. Dave has said the idea for the bar actually took root decades earlier, while he was stationed at Parris Island in the Marine Corps. He envisioned something low-key and local — a place for food, beer and a good time, rather than a nightclub scene.

Getting there wasn't quick. The couple gutted the building before COVID-19 hit, and the pandemic delayed the project for years afterward. Angie has said the two saved money along the way and completed most of the repair work themselves before finally opening the doors this week.

Pizza, Subs and a Dozen Beers on Tap

The menu leans casual for now, with pizza, subs and salads headlining the kitchen. Angie has said the bar makes its own dressings and pizza sauces from scratch rather than relying on store-bought versions. Drink options include bottled and canned beers, wines and specialty ready-to-drink cocktails, alongside 12 beers on draft.

Rock Bottom Bar is open 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Saturday and closed on Sundays. Angie reported that the bar stayed busy throughout its opening day on Oct. 15, a strong early sign for the new spot.

Bigger Plans on the Horizon

The current menu is just a starting point. Owners plan to expand the kitchen lineup to include hamburgers, wings and other items once they're able, along with seasonal dishes built around fresh ingredients.

Once the bar gets settled into a rhythm, Dave and Angie intend to add bands and karaoke nights to the calendar. They're also eyeing a backyard patio for when warmer weather returns, with plans calling for 15 tables and space set aside for live performers.

Separate Legal Notice Tied to the Property

Apart from the opening-week excitement, a legal notice has surfaced naming CRI Homes, LLC as plaintiff in a case against The Rockbottom Bar LLC and other defendants concerning the Wooster Road property, according to mountvernonnews.com. The notice states that defendants are required to serve an answer to the complaint on the plaintiff's attorney within 28 days of service and file that answer with the court within three days of serving the attorney. It also warns that failure to appear and defend could result in a default judgment against the named defendants.
