A sprawling new attraction built entirely on optical trickery is headed for downtown Sacramento. Museum of Illusions will open its doors on Friday, November 6, 2026, at 405 K Street, bringing its first Northern California location to the city's DoCo district with more than 70 interactive exhibits designed to mess with visitors' sense of reality.
A First-of-Its-Kind Spot for Northern California
The Sacramento venue marks the chain's third California location and its first anywhere in the northern half of the state, according to a release from prnewswire.com. The 10,000-square-foot space is described as the brand's 72nd location worldwide, part of a company that the same release says operates more than 70 locations across more than 30 countries. The address has been reported with conflicting suite numbers — prnewswire.com lists it as Suite 110, while traveldailymedia.com lists it as Suite 125 — but the corrected PR Newswire release lists the correct suite as Suite 110. The Sacramento Bee also reported that the museum is set to open in the DoCo area.
Museum of Illusions CEO Kim Schaefer is named in the prnewswire.com release as the company's chief executive, and her comments there concern Sacramento's history and the city's fit for the museum. The release also states that several signature exhibits planned for the Sacramento museum draw inspiration from the city's Gold Rush roots, a nod meant to localize the otherwise globally replicated attraction for its new California audience.
What's Inside: Infinity Rooms and a Head on a Platter
Guests can expect more than 70 exhibits and attractions throughout the museum, including Building Illusion, Following Eyes and a Reverse Room, per the prnewswire.com announcement. The museum's own exhibits page adds a Reversed Room to the lineup, while the Sacramento Bee reports that exhibits will also include an Infinity Room and a Head on a Platter installation. Visitors can take in the installations through a pre-booked guided tour or explore at their own pace, the museum's Sacramento site notes.
The Sacramento opening follows a similar rollout in Southern California, where a Museum of Illusions location opened on Santa Monica's Third Street Promenade with more than 80 interactive exhibits across 12,000 square feet, according to KTLA. That location features an Ames Room, a Vortex Tunnel and a Reversed Room, and the station reports it is accredited by STEM.org and open seven days a week with tickets available online or at the door.
Tickets, Hours and Opening Discounts
General admission for the Sacramento museum starts at $30 for adults and $26 for children ages 5 to 12, per the prnewswire.com release. The museum is running a Book Early Offer through November 5 that lets guests lock in buy-one-get-one-free tickets, followed by a Grand Opening Offer providing 20% off tickets from November 6 through December 4.
Once open, the museum will keep extended hours: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, the release states. The company's broader data shows its individual locations typically draw between 100,000 and 300,000 visitors annually, while the chain as a whole reported approximately 7 million visits in 2025, according to Franchise Times. That outlet also reported the company had 68 venues in 28 countries at the time of a recent investment deal, while Blooloop put the figure at nearly 70 venues across 27 countries — figures that differ from the 72-location, 30-plus-country count cited in the Sacramento opening announcement. Franchise Times also noted the company had both Sacramento and San Francisco on its list of planned 2026 openings.
