A MWR Fort Worth Facebook post highlighted windy conditions around Fall Fest.

A Base Built for Big Crowds

NAS JRB Fort Worth was established on October 1, 1994, as the nation's first joint reserve base, created on the site of the former Carswell Air Force Base following the 1993 Base Realignment and Closure recommendations, according to Navy Region Southeast. The installation sits six miles west of downtown Fort Worth in Tarrant County. F-35 fighter jets are assembled at Lockheed Martin Air Force Plant #4, part of the defense corridor that forms a key pillar of the regional economy.

The base employs more than 11,000 active-duty, reserve, guard and civilian personnel across over 40 joint tenant commands, generating an estimated $6.6 billion economic impact in Texas, according to NAS JRB Fort Worth MWR records citing the Texas Comptroller. The Fort Worth area is home to an estimated 212,000 military retirees.

Military Family Support

The Airpower Foundation is a nonprofit that has supported military families since 1999.

Co-sponsor Operation Homefront provides financial assistance and rent-free transitional homes. Its programs include family events and grants.

Navy MWR operates a commercial sponsorship program for corporate partners.

A Base Home to Fifth-Generation Fighters

NAS JRB Fort Worth also hosts the Air Force Reserve Command's 301st Fighter Wing, which in 2024 became the first USAF Reserve unit to receive fifth-generation F-35A Lightning II fighter jets, replacing its legacy F-16 Vipers with F-35As delivered through 2026, according to The Aviation Geek Club. That aviation mission runs alongside the base's quality-of-life calendar. A returning Oktoberfest was scheduled at Ten Bowling Center, according to a recent report on the event.
