Leashes, glow sticks and neon T-shirts will take over Silverado Ranch Park on Saturday, Oct. 17, as Nevada SPCA hosts its sixth annual Neon Dog Walk, a fundraiser aimed at supporting homeless pets across Las Vegas. Gates and registration open at 3 p.m., the walk itself kicks off at 4 p.m., and festivities continue through 7 p.m.
The event is designed to feel like a block party as much as a fundraiser, according to FOX5 Vegas, which reports organizers are hoping to raise more than $125,000 for lifesaving care and support services. That figure matches what fox5vegas.com separately described as this year’s fundraising goal of $125,000, while dogfriendlylasvegas.com put the goal at more than $125,000 — accounts that differ slightly on whether the target is a hard number or a floor.
Nevada SPCA executive director Lori Heeren said the walk celebrates the bond between people and pets while helping animals in need, according to FOX5 Vegas. Money raised will go toward shelter operations, medical care, enrichment programs and adoption services, along with the organization’s pet food pantry, low-cost microchip clinics and medical assistance initiatives for pet owners who need help caring for their animals.
What's Happening in Neon Village
Beyond the walk, the event’s Neon Village area is open to the public, whether or not they're registered participants. Per dogfriendlylasvegas.com, the space will feature a live DJ, doggie stage contests and prizes, food and beverage vendors, a craft beer garden, and pet-friendly vendors and activations. Participants are encouraged to wear neon attire for the walk itself, adding to the glow-lit atmosphere organizers have built around the event since it launched in 2021.
Registration costs $35 per person, with early-bird pricing having ended in August, the same outlet reports. Children 12 and under get in free, and walkers can sign up individually or form fundraising teams. Every registered participant will receive a commemorative 2026 Neon Dog Walk T-shirt and a wag bag while supplies last, and dogs attending must be friendly, current on vaccinations, and kept on a leash throughout the event.
A Shelter System Under Strain
The fundraiser arrives as Southern Nevada’s animal welfare groups continue grappling with overcrowding. The Animal Foundation took in 29,000 pets in 2025, an 11% increase from 2024, and the organization has said it takes in nearly 90 animals a day and is often overcrowded, according to the Las Vegas Sun. Nevada SPCA itself had to temporarily stop accepting dogs at its shelter in November because the facility was full, the same report noted.
Nevada SPCA describes itself as a local, independent nonprofit that relies on the generosity of its community rather than government funding. Per the organization’s own site, it operates as an independent 501(c)(3) that relies entirely on donations from individuals, businesses and grants, and it is not a local chapter of the ASPCA. The group has served as a safety net for Southern Nevada’s vulnerable pets since 1982.
Building on Past Years' Momentum
The Neon Dog Walk has grown into one of Nevada SPCA’s signature fundraisers since its 2021 debut, per dogfriendlylasvegas.com. Last year's event, then called Day Glo, was held on Oct. 19, 2024, at the same Silverado Ranch Park location and raised $100,000 for local shelter pets, according to News3LV. That event's proceeds went toward medical care and other support for thousands of Southern Nevada's homeless pets.
Nevada SPCA has previously described the walk as one of its largest and most important fundraisers of the year, a framing that lines up with this year's expanded Neon Village lineup and the organization's push to clear the $125,000 mark. With shelters across the valley still reporting elevated intake, organizers are betting that another glow-in-the-dark evening at Silverado Ranch Park can help keep pace.
