A new AdventHealth clinic has opened in Middleton, bringing pediatric primary care, pediatric cardiology, pediatric orthopedics and women's urogynecology services to a fast-growing community just outside The Villages. The AdventHealth Middleton Multispecialty Clinic sits at 2274 Alder Ave. and includes 24 treatment rooms, a pediatric X-ray room and dedicated spaces for children's heart screenings.
According to Florida National News, the clinic brings together AdventHealth for Children and AdventHealth for Women at a single location, a combination AdventHealth issued a news release about on October 29. Middleton is home to approximately 1,200 families and households, per the release, and many residents work in and around The Villages.
Jenny Trew, described as the first family to move to Middleton, has driven nearly an hour to Clermont for pediatric care for her 13-year-old twin sons, Jasen and Jackson. She said the new clinic will reduce the burden of traveling for routine pediatric appointments.
Pediatric Specialists Aim to Shorten the Drive for Sick Kids
Dr. Vanessa Carroll, chief medical officer of AdventHealth for Children, said trusted pediatric care close to home matters most to families dealing with a sick or injured child. She said an hour-long drive can feel even longer when a child isn't feeling well, underscoring the rationale behind locating pediatric cardiology and orthopedics alongside primary care in Middleton.
The clinic's women's urogynecology services include care for urinary incontinence and pelvic floor conditions. AdventHealth said the goal is to offer women nearby specialized treatment intended to improve comfort, health and quality of life. Kristen Toth, vice president of AdventHealth for Women, said women in the area should know this care is now available close to home.
A School District Growing as Fast as the Clinic's Waiting Room
Middleton schools enroll more than 3,000 students across early childhood centers, two K-8 schools and a high school, according to the AdventHealth release. LeAnne Yerk, principal of The Villages Charter Elementary School, said children's health and well-being are deeply connected to their ability to learn, grow and thrive in the classroom — a link school leaders see as directly relevant to having pediatric specialists nearby.
That enrollment growth tracks with broader population trends in the region. The Villages/Wildwood metro area saw a 5% population increase from 2022 to 2023, making it the fastest-growing metro area in the country during that period, according to My News 13. The number of children ages 0 to 14 in the area increased 18% from 2020 to 2023 — the largest increase of its kind nationwide for that age group during that time frame.

A Bigger Hospital Is Already in the Works
The Middleton clinic arrives as AdventHealth pursues a much larger project in the same region. The health system has announced plans to build an 80-bed acute-care hospital in The Villages area, according to WUSF, with the facility expected to provide emergency, surgical and inpatient care. The hospital would become the region's second acute-care facility, joining the 315-bed UF Health Spanish Plaines Hospital, which opened in 2022.
Construction on the new hospital is expected to begin in 2027, with an opening projected for 2030, according to AdventHealth. The facility will anchor Legacy Place, a 700-acre mixed-use development planned on 25 acres near Florida's Turnpike, per the station's report. WUSF reported rapid population growth in the Wildwood–The Villages metro area as a reason for the hospital plan, while federal data has identified the region as the nation's fastest-growing metro area this decade for both children 14 and younger and working-age adults.
