Parkesburg is getting its first Giant grocery store, and the company says the doors will open Friday, Nov. 6, at 8 a.m. The 60,000-square-foot store sits at The Shoppes of Sadsbury, 880 Nova Way, and will run daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., offering everything from a sushi chef to a pharmacy with a private immunization room.
The opening date and store details were confirmed by The Shelby Report, which reported that the location will officially open its doors that Friday morning. According to andnowuknow.com, the store will feature a produce department with dedicated space for organic and exotic global items, a service deli, a full-service floral department, a beer and wine area, a hot bar and a sushi chef.
A First Store for the Parkesburg Community
The Giant Company has described the project as its first location in the Parkesburg community itself, a milestone noted by Store Brands. The store will also carry a meat and seafood department with a smoked salmon case, pre-packed salads and specialty cheeses, and a bakery making donuts daily in-house, per the seed-story reporting.
Shoppers will also find a beer and wine area that includes ready-to-drink wine slushies, and the store will offer Giant Direct online ordering with curbside pickup for anyone who would rather skip the aisles altogether. Mike Smith, a 31-year grocery veteran, has been named store manager, with andnowuknow.com reporting that he said his team is excited to welcome the Parkesburg community and is proud of the store's food, services and friendly service.
Part of a Larger Retail Buildout
The new Giant is one piece of a much bigger project. The Philadelphia Business Journal reported that the Giant store will co-anchor a shopping center under development, and BucksCo Today has described the project as part of a 360,000-square-foot retail center being built in phases, with Giant serving as anchor alongside Target. An entity associated with Villanova-based Provco Group is the developer, according to the same outlet, which also placed the Parkesburg location between West Chester and Lancaster.
Sources differ on exactly how many Chester County stores this makes for Giant. andnowuknow.com reported the Parkesburg location marks the company's 14th store in the county, while the Philadelphia Business Journal's earlier reporting said it would mark the grocer's 13th location there. Both figures come from credible reporting, though the discrepancy remains unresolved.
Company Leadership on the New Location
John Ruane, president of The Giant Company, said the new store is built with customers' needs in mind and offers value, freshness and kindness, per the seed-story account. The Giant Company traces its roots to 1923 in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and now operates nearly 200 stores across Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia under the Giant and Martin's banners, with more than 35,000 team members. The company is a division of Ahold Delhaize USA, a connection also confirmed by Store Brands.
Giant's footprint in the Philadelphia market has been substantial: BucksCo Today reported the chain held 15.9 percent of the Philadelphia metropolitan area's grocery market share and generated $3.42 billion in sales across 74 stores in the region between April 2023 and March 2024. The outlet also noted Giant was expected to open a Jenkintown store the following month after its original report, underscoring the chain's continued expansion across the region.
