Shelving went up this week at 504 N. Main St. in High Point, where Spindle & Spine is preparing to open its doors sometime this month. The new shop will sell books alongside curated gifts and small, locally crafted furniture made by area artisans.

Photos taken Monday and shared by the Winston-Salem Journal show owner Amanda Anderson at the storefront as contractor Mike Klaiber installed shelving inside the space, with staff photography credited to Woody Marshall.

Anderson's concept pairs High Point's furniture heritage with bookselling. She worked in the city's furniture industry after college, and the name Spindle & Spine nods to both wood-turned spindles and book spines, the outlet reports.

A Civic Connection Runs Through the New Space

Anderson isn't new to community work in High Point. She's also founder and executive director of Cover the City Project, founded in 2013, which collects blankets and essential supplies for people in need. According to Cover the City Project, the organization planned to move its office operations into the same 504 N. Main St. location as the bookstore, and the group traces its origin to Anderson helping an unhoused man she found sleeping behind a local Krispy Kreme.

Even before its physical doors opened, Spindle & Spine was already showing up in the community. The shop partnered with the High Point Public Library in September to serve as the official bookseller for a centennial celebration author talk, part of the library's 100th anniversary series featuring Dr. Joe Blosser, per the City of High Point.

Timeline From Announcement to Storefront

Anderson first announced her plans to launch Spindle & Spine on World Book Day in April, and the response was immediate — she began fielding about 400 inquiries weekly about a physical location, the trade publication notes. That groundswell suggests pent-up local appetite for a hometown bookstore after years without one.
