A new dialysis clinic is coming to Humble, the result of a partnership between Fresenius Kidney Care and Focus Kidney Care aimed at expanding treatment options for patients with kidney disease in the area. The companies are marking the milestone with a community open house scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. on Oct. 8, which will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Partnership Lake Houston.
According to Community Impact, the new center builds on an existing partnership between Fresenius Medical Care and Focus Kidney Care, and the two organizations say the collaboration aims to increase access to “high-quality, life-sustaining dialysis care” in Humble and the north Houston area. The clinic is located at 18760 Hwy. 59, Ste. 110, in Humble, and will offer in-center hemodialysis along with home hemodialysis and home peritoneal dialysis.
Community members attending the open house will have a chance to learn about kidney disease and the range of dialysis options now available locally, the same report notes. Dr. Banshi Rathi said the partnership builds on a history of helping patients live their healthiest lives possible, adding that offering multiple treatment paths lets providers meet patients where they are. “By offering many different treatment options, we can meet people where they are,” Rathi said, per the article.
A Years-Long Buildout for Kidney Care in Humble
The Humble site has a longer history than this week's announcement suggests. Focus Kidney Care was first confirmed to be coming to the 18760 Hwy. 59 address back in September 2023, with office management telling Community Impact the opening was in the works, and a groundbreaking ceremony followed that October. At the time, the clinic was described as serving patients with kidney disease and high blood pressure, along with those needing dialysis and transplant care.
More than a year later, the location underwent interior renovations. The station's 2024 report detailed a roughly $150,000 project that began Oct. 15 of that year and was expected to wrap up by Dec. 31, according to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing. The work involved converting an exam room into a training space for home dialysis and turning a storage space into an exam room — changes that line up with the home hemodialysis and home peritoneal dialysis services now tied to the new center.
What Fresenius and Focus Kidney Care Offer Patients
Fresenius Kidney Care has described its broader services as a mix of in-clinic and at-home kidney care, including hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis along with referrals and counseling for transplants, per the earlier Community Impact coverage. Fielmarie “Abbie” Cliff said Fresenius Kidney Care is pleased to continue partnering with Focus Kidney Care to deliver high-quality dialysis care in what she called a welcoming and innovative setting. “Our compassionate and skilled team is ready to serve the northeast Houston area,” Cliff said.
The push to expand dialysis access comes as kidney disease remains a significant burden across Texas. A 2024 analysis found that the Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth and Austin-San Antonio metro areas together account for 66.03% of the state's end-stage renal disease patients, with Houston alone representing roughly a quarter of that total, according to a study published on PMC. National data has also pointed toward home dialysis as a growing priority: a 2024 U.S. Renal Data System report noted that the 2019 Advancing American Kidney Health executive order set a target for home dialysis utilization well above current practice, according to the U.S. Renal Data System.
Fresenius Kidney Care has pursued similar partnerships elsewhere in Texas, including a dialysis center that opened in north Denton earlier this year offering treatments for chronic kidney diseases along with kidney-health education, Community Impact reported separately. For now, the focus in Humble is on introducing the community to the new clinic at the Oct. 8 open house, where residents can tour the facility and ask questions about dialysis care options directly from staff.
