A Westchester County jury convicted Kevin Lopez in a robbery and stabbing on the Centre Avenue Bridge over Interstate 95. Prosecutors said the attack followed a demand for money and left the victim with multiple injuries.

Lopez, 41, was found guilty on Thursday, October 29, the Westchester County District Attorney's Office announced, according to Daily Voice. The jury convicted him of second-degree attempted murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree attempted assault, second-degree assault and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. The charges stem from an attack on the bridge at around 10 p.m. on July 30, 2025.

Daily Voice reported that Lopez approached the victim from behind with a utility knife and demanded money. After the victim handed over $100, Lopez pushed him to the ground and stabbed him repeatedly in the face, neck, abdomen and left arm.

Victim Needed Stitches, Treatment for Jugular Hematoma

The victim required stitches for multiple cuts and treatment for a jugular hematoma, according to the same account. Investigators recovered Lopez's license at the scene and also found the knife used in the stabbing.

The report says New Rochelle police arrested Lopez at his home on August 8, 2025. Following a trial before Westchester County Court Judge Maurice Williams, the jury found him guilty on all five charges.

Prior Violent Felony Could Factor Into Sentencing

Court records cited in the report indicate Lopez has a prior violent felony conviction; details of that case were not disclosed. New York law defines a second violent felony offender as someone convicted of a violent felony after previously being subjected to a predicate violent felony conviction, according to NYS Open Legislation. The statute for a class B violent felony committed by a second felony offender sets a prison term of at least eight years and no more than 25 years, per NYS Open Legislation. It remains unclear how that range will apply to Lopez's case.

Lopez remains in custody at the Westchester County Jail while awaiting sentencing, scheduled for December 11. The case began with an attack on a pedestrian using the Centre Avenue Bridge.

Bridge also serves pedestrians

The Centre Avenue Bridge serves both vehicle traffic and pedestrians. In a June 2026 repair notice, the New York State Thruway Authority said it planned to close the bridge to both groups at about 9 p.m. on June 29 and reopen it no later than September 1.
