A 43-year-old New Rochelle man is facing a stack of criminal charges after police say he was caught driving the wrong way down Division Street before dawn, found to be intoxicated, and then discovered to be carrying a loaded, illegally possessed firearm. Jamell Green was taken into custody without incident around 4 a.m. on October 25, according to police.
A New Rochelle police officer spotted Green's vehicle heading the wrong way on Division Street at that hour and stopped him, according to talkofthesound.com. During the stop, the officer determined that Green was intoxicated, the outlet reported. A subsequent search tied to the arrest turned up a loaded firearm in Green's possession, police said.
Multiple Charges, Including a Violent Felony
Green was arrested without incident, according to the Newport Dispatch, and now faces a lengthy list of charges tied to both the intoxication allegation and the firearm. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and with operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content of .08 percent or higher, both of which are unclassified misdemeanors under New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law, the report notes.
On the weapons side, Green faces criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, a class A misdemeanor, as well as criminal possession of a firearm, a class E felony. The most serious charge is criminal possession of a loaded firearm in the second degree, described as a class C violent felony, per the same account.
A Broader Pattern in the Region
The arrest comes amid what some area police have described as a rise in drunk-driving enforcement activity. A separate report from News 12 found that DWI arrests in parts of the Hudson Valley nearly doubled this past July compared to July 2025, climbing from 13 to 25, with police suggesting the jump could be linked to stepped-up enforcement rather than a surge in actual offenses. It is not clear from available records whether that regional trend extends specifically to New Rochelle.
New Rochelle's own police department has separately flagged DWI as a category it tracks in its year-to-date crime statistics, though the city's Monthly Data page cautions that posted figures are subject to change as investigations develop. Details such as Green's blood alcohol reading, the type of firearm recovered, and where exactly it was located have not been made public.
