A brand-new 116-suite SpringHill Suites by Marriott opened its doors on October 8 at 1155 Payton Way in Leeds, Alabama, and it wastes no time telling guests what the area is all about: a vintage motorcycle and racecar greet visitors right in the lobby and dining area. The hotel sits adjacent to a Hampton Inn, across from Bass Pro Shops, and within easy reach of both Barber Motorsports Park and Museum and the Shops of Grand River.
The hotel's opening was reported by Bham Now, which detailed amenities including a full-service bar and bistro, an outdoor patio with two fire pits, a 24-hour fitness center, a business center, on-site laundry, and complimentary hot breakfast. The lobby features decor from the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum. The same report notes the hotel is designed for travelers headed to nearby Barber Motorsports Park and Museum or the Shops of Grand River.
The new property was built through a $21 million investment from Birmingham-based Jackson Hospitality Services, which broke ground on the project in January 2025 alongside Leeds Mayor David Miller, according to St. Clair News-Aegis. Jackson Hospitality Services President Cory Jackson Jr. led the development alongside Miller.
A Corridor Built Around Horsepower
The hotel's racing-inspired design makes more sense once you consider its neighbors. Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum, just down the road, holds the Guinness World Record for the world's largest motorcycle museum, displaying 1,398 unique exhibits across a five-story facility, per Guinness World Records. The museum is in Birmingham, Alabama, within the 830-acre Barber Motorsports Park complex.
Retail Growth Next Door at Shops of Grand River
Guests at the new SpringHill Suites won't have to go far for shopping either. Bham Now's report notes that Clarks, a 201-year-old British shoemaker, opened a location at the Shops of Grand River last month, and Big Mama Meat & Three has announced plans to launch in downtown Leeds in December.
Motorsports development in the area keeps expanding too. A $1.85 million land sale in nearby Grand River Technology Park is tied to plans for a karting facility near Barber Motorsports Park, projected to generate $10 million in annual economic impact, as reported by ABC 33/40.
A New Lodging Option for the Region
For a corridor already anchored by Bass Pro Shops, Buc-ee's, and a world-record-holding motorcycle museum, the SpringHill Suites adds another lodging option built specifically with racing fans in mind.
