Newark police are still searching for the suspects behind two robberies carried out 109 minutes apart on September 26, 2026, one involving a knife and an envelope stuffed with $8,000, the other involving a parking lot attendant threatened with a screwdriver. Investigators say both crimes were linked to the same stolen gray Dodge Durango, and no arrests have been announced more than a month later.
An $8,000 Envelope Grabbed at Knifepoint
According to information released by Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr. and reported by rlsmedia.com, the first robbery happened around 8:20 a.m. in the 100 block of Miller Street, where suspects traveling in the gray Durango approached a victim carrying an envelope. One suspect pulled out a knife and demanded an envelope the victim was reportedly trying to conceal, which contained $8,000, before snatching it and fleeing. The suspects then sped off westbound on Miller Street toward McCarter Highway in the Durango, which carried New Jersey registration U40YKE.
At 10:09 a.m., 109 minutes later, the same stolen SUV turned up at the J&L Parking Lot on Bruen Street, where suspects allegedly threatened a parking attendant with a screwdriver and ordered him out of the booth. Per the same account, the suspects made off with $459 in cash, a cellphone, a wallet and car keys before escaping southbound on Bruen Street. The Durango has since been recovered, though authorities have not announced any arrests and say they are continuing efforts to identify everyone involved.
Second Robbery at the Same Lot in Weeks
The Bruen Street parking lot was targeted in a strikingly similar robbery just a week earlier. Newark Police had already asked for the public's help identifying three men wanted in connection with an incident at approximately 4:47 a.m. on September 19, 2026, at the same J&L Parking lot near Edison Place, the station's report noted. In that earlier case, suspects arrived in a white Hyundai Sonata bearing New Jersey registration D57WZM, took a small amount of cash and keys from the attendant's pocket, then fled southbound on Bruen Street after he escaped.
Newark police have not said whether the cases are formally linked.
Tip Line Open for Information
Miranda urged anyone with information about the suspects' identities to call the police division's 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS. As of the latest update from Newport Dispatch, no suspect descriptions, names or arrests had been publicly disclosed in either the knife robbery or the parking lot heist, leaving both cases open as investigators continue working to track down those responsible.
