A jury has convicted a 35-year-old man of murder for gunning down another man during a street argument in 2023, then fleeing on foot and making it all the way to a Texas bus station before U.S. Marshals caught up with him. Antwine King was found guilty on October 20, 2026, of first-degree murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun, and second-degree possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose.
According to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, King got into a verbal argument with the victim, Vincent Anderson, at the intersection of Clinton Place and Renner Avenue in Newark on October 22, 2023. During that confrontation, prosecutors said, King shot Anderson once in the back before running from the scene on foot. The prosecutor's office identified Anderson as being from Newark, though a separate account from RLS Media described the victim, Vincent J. Anderson, as a 60-year-old resident of New York City.
King did not stay in New Jersey for long. Six days after the shooting, U.S. Marshals apprehended him in Laredo, Texas, the prosecutor's office said. An earlier report from NJ.com's Essex bureau had put King's age at 32 at the time of his arrest.
Verdict Followed Three Days of Deliberation
The jury reached its verdict after three days of deliberations, as NJ.com reported. Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II announced the guilty verdict, and the case was tried by Assistant Prosecutors Logan Teisch and Melanie Laprade before the Honorable Michael L. Ravin, J.S.C.
Teisch thanked Essex County Homicide Task Force detectives, Newark Police Division officers, and the U.S. Marshals for their work on the case, saying the Marshals' efforts were instrumental in bringing King to justice. Laprade said the conviction affirmed that Anderson's life mattered, even though it could not ease the pain of his loved ones, and added that Essex County will continue delivering justice for victims of senseless violence.
Sentencing Set for January
The prosecutor's office says King is scheduled to be sentenced on January 5, 2027, and faces a potential prison sentence of 30 years to life. NJ.com also reported that King is scheduled to be sentenced on January 5, 2027.
