Newport News police are asking for the public's help finding a 79-year-old man who vanished Saturday evening and is considered endangered because of a medical condition. Samuel Tyler was last seen around 4:50 p.m. wearing a brown jacket, a white shirt, a black ball cap and black jeans, and he hasn't been seen since.
The Newport News Police Department is seeking the missing, endangered man, according to 13News Now. Tyler is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall and 180 pounds, with a bald head and brown eyes, matching details reported across local outlets covering his disappearance.
Conflicting Reports on Where He Was Last Seen
Exactly where Tyler was last seen remains unclear, with local stations offering differing accounts. 13News Now reported he was last seen about 4:50 p.m. Saturday in the 900 block of Bent Branch Lane, while WAVY reported the same time but placed him in the 500 block of the same street. Neither account has been reconciled, and it isn't clear from available reporting which block is accurate.
Police have not publicly detailed the nature of Tyler's medical condition, only stating that it is the reason he is considered endangered. That designation typically signals urgency in how officers prioritize a search for a missing adult, since it suggests Tyler may need medication, treatment or assistance that he would not otherwise have access to while missing.
What To Do If You Spot Him
Anyone who sees Tyler or has information about where he might be is asked to call Newport News police at 757-247-2500. The description released by investigators, down to his clothing and build, is meant to help residents in the Bent Branch Lane area and beyond recognize him quickly if he is spotted nearby or elsewhere in the city.
