A Norfolk man was sentenced to five years in prison in a case involving child sexual abuse material.

The case began after xAI, the company behind the Grok chatbot on X, reported a cyber tip to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children on January 5, 2026, according to 13News Now. Investigators determined that a user later identified as Walker had uploaded 21 known images of child sexual abuse material to the platform. Walker was arrested in March 2026.

Walker admitted to uploading the abuse material and other images to Grok, and to prompting the chatbot to produce new or manipulated material based on those images, the outlet reports. In June, he pleaded guilty to one count of possessing child sexual abuse material and 11 counts of subsequent-offense possession.

Sentence Includes Years of Supervision After Release

Along with the five-year active sentence, a judge suspended 11 additional years in prison on the remaining charges, per the same account. Walker must register as a sex offender and will be under supervision for years after his release: three years of uniform good behavior, two years of supervised probation, and six months of post-release supervision, plus any treatment his probation officer recommends.

Norfolk Commonwealth's Attorney Ramin Fatehi said the use of AI to generate additional abuse material compounds the harm done to victims. “Protecting children from abusers and potential abusers demands a serious response like Walker’s sentence,” Fatehi said, according to the station's report. The outlet also notes that the Virginia General Assembly has made AI-generated child sexual abuse material just as illegal as material depicting real abuse.

A Surge in AI-Linked Exploitation Reports Nationwide

Walker's case reflects a sharp rise in generative AI's role in child exploitation reports. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children says reports to its CyberTipline in 2025 included more than 400,000 involving a generative AI nexus, with more than 182,000 involving offenders possessing, generating or attempting to generate AI-generated material, according to missingkids.org. The organization says it has identified more than 275 victims of AI-generated abuse material and categorized more than 158,000 related images and videos since it began tracking the trend in 2023.

The center separately reported that electronic service providers submitted 61.8 million images, videos and other files to the CyberTipline in 2025.

Grok itself has been at the center of a documented surge in abusive AI-generated content. Users prompted the chatbot to produce an estimated three million sexualized images during an 11-day span from December 2025 into January 2026, roughly 23,000 of which depicted children, according to the National Association of Attorneys General.

Similar Cases Emerging Across the Country

Walker's prosecution is one of several recent cases nationally tied to AI-generated abuse material. In Nashville, cyber detectives traced more than 40 sexual images of infant-aged girls to an xAI account between September 2025 and March 2026, leading to the arrest of 47-year-old Jerry Dubose on a charge of sexual exploitation of a minor, held on a $25,000 bond, according to WSMV.

In Illinois, 36-year-old Bjorn Z. Boydston was charged with 10 counts involving purported images of children under 13 and pleaded not guilty, becoming the first person in Rock Island County to face such charges, according to WQAD.
