More than 2,000 Dominion Energy customers across Norfolk woke up in the dark Tuesday morning, with outages stretching from the Berkley neighborhood to the campus of Norfolk State University. Crews were working to restore service with an estimated window of 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., though a separate pocket of outages downtown remained unresolved and under investigation.
The largest portions of the outage were concentrated in the Berkley, Hardy Field, Spartan Village and Middle Towne Arch areas, according to wavy.com. Norfolk State University's campus was among the locations without power, the station reported, raising the stakes for students and staff navigating the start of the school day without electricity.
A smaller cluster of customers also lost power along Waterside Drive and St. Pauls Boulevard, a separate outage that the station noted was still active and being investigated as of Tuesday morning. 13News Now reported it had reached out to Dominion Energy for more information on what caused the outages and said it planned to continue providing updates as the situation developed.
Second Major Southside Outage in Two Days
Tuesday's outage came just a day after a much larger disruption hit the region. More than 5,000 Dominion Energy customers across Norfolk, Virginia Beach and Chesapeake lost power Monday afternoon, according to a report carried by Yahoo News. In that case, Dominion Energy attributed the outage to failed equipment that led to a downed wire.
All customers affected by Monday's outage had their power restored by 10 p.m. that night, per the same report.
