Norfolk's waterfront is getting a grown-up Halloween twist next Thursday, as Nauticus hosts Books & BOOs, a costumed, cocktail-friendly spinoff of its Nauticus After Dark series built specifically for guests 21 and older. The event brings together local vendors, shopping, socializing and waterfront activities along with food and drinks, giving adults a chance to skip the trick-or-treat crowds and enjoy their own Halloween night out downtown.
According to WAVY.com, the event is set for October 22, 2026, and will run from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. A separate Hampton Roads Halloween and fall events guide from the same outlet lists the event starting at 5 p.m. that same evening, so attendees may want to confirm timing before heading out.
Vendors, Costumes and a Waterfront Setting
Nauticus says it will feature 25 local vendors for the evening, though only a handful have been named so far. Among them are Cozy Cove Bookshop, Half Full Bookstore and Novel Grounds Romance Bookstore, alongside Soy Vida Candles and Stak'd Permanent Jewelry, per the report. Guests are also encouraged to dress up, with a costume contest planned as part of the night's festivities.
The venue itself, the science center and museum home to the Battleship Wisconsin, sits along Norfolk's downtown waterfront and regularly hosts after-hours programming through its Nauticus After Dark series. Books & BOOs marks the Halloween-themed edition of that recurring lineup, pairing the venue's exhibits with an adults-only social twist.
Food, Drinks and Getting Tickets
On-site restaurant Anchor & Spoon will roll out a special girl dinner-inspired menu of bites, snacks and drinks for purchase during the event, giving attendees a themed way to snack while they browse vendor tables and socialize along the water. Guests looking to attend can purchase tickets for Books & BOOs for $12 in advance or $15 on the day of the event, with discounted prices for members.
For more information on Nauticus and its ongoing event lineup, visitors can check the museum's official site, while additional fall happenings around the region are tracked through Downtown Norfolk's events calendar.
