Norfolk is starting Thursday with partly cloudy skies and mild temperatures, but the next few days will feel more like midsummer than early October. Highs should climb near 89 degrees Thursday and 91 degrees Friday before a sharp turn toward clouds, showers and cooler air this weekend.
Summerlike Heat Builds Through Friday
Thursday will be mostly sunny, with southwest winds around 5 to 8 mph and a high near 89 degrees. The National Weather Service expects Friday to be even warmer, with mostly sunny skies, southwest winds of 7 to 12 mph and temperatures near 91 degrees.
Those readings are roughly 10 to 15 degrees above normal for early October, making Friday the warmest day of the stretch. No watches, warnings or advisories are posted for Norfolk at this time.
Rain Chances Rise Saturday
The pattern changes Saturday as a front moves through the region. Norfolk could see rain showers after 8 a.m., with mostly cloudy skies, north winds of 9 to 13 mph and a high near 72 degrees.
Sunday looks like the wettest day of the forecast, with an 80% chance of rain. Showers are likely before 2 p.m., followed by additional showers and thunderstorms, while temperatures remain stuck near 71 degrees.
Cooler, Drier Weather Arrives Next Week
Showers could linger into Monday morning, when the high is expected to reach only about 71 degrees. Skies should gradually clear Monday night, followed by sunny and noticeably cooler conditions Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs near 65 and 67 degrees.
By Tuesday night, temperatures may fall to around 54 degrees. In other words, Norfolk gets one last summer impersonation before the forecast remembers it is October.
