North Belt Patrol Station Project in North Houston
Whitmire and Diaz attended the August 2025 groundbreaking for the North Belt Patrol Station. Whitmire is the city's mayor, and Diaz is HPD's chief; the station is intended to serve the North Belt patrol area.
Conflicting Accounts of the Station's Size
The seed announcement describes the finished station as a 27,000-square-foot, two-story building. That figure differs from an earlier city record: a 2024 construction advertisement from the City of Houston General Services department described the planned project as a 29,000-square-foot police station paired with a separate 2,000-square-foot fleet building, intended to include patrol, administration, investigative functions, and opportunities for community relations, according to the City of Houston General Services advertisement. The two descriptions give different figures for the station's area.
A separate page on the city's site, describing HPD's North Belt Division, has previously noted that the division operated from an office building while plans were underway for a police station to be built next to Fire Station 84 on Gears Road, per houstontx.gov.
Years of Planning Behind the Project
A City Council contract agenda dated July 29, 2020, listed services tied to the North Belt Police Station project among contracts awarded by the council, according to the City of Houston City Secretary's office. A later construction advertisement for the project was published in 2024.
Houston Police has flagged the North Belt Patrol Station on social media before. In a post on X, the department's account wrote that the station had “17 officers from Academy Class 230 who have chosen to work in this area as their first patrol assignment,” adding, “Good luck and be safe!” The post, shared by @houstonpolice
, was dated January 12, 2018, at 4:37 p.m., and a figure of 6271 appeared alongside it.
The North Belt Patrol Station is described as a facility developed through collaboration between HPD and the Houston Fire Department.
