A man and a woman are dead after what the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is calling an apparent murder-suicide in north Bexar County, with deputies forcing their way into a home early Sunday after a report that a man shot a woman and then turned the gun on himself. Neither victim has been publicly identified.
According to KSAT, deputies were dispatched around 2 a.m. Sunday to the 6200 block of Carriage Cape after receiving the report. Once they arrived, deputies forced their way into the home and found the man and woman inside, the station reported.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, BCSO said. The woman was taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound to the upper body and later died from her injuries, according to the same report. Their identities have not been released.
Latest in a Grim Pattern of Family-Related Killings
Sunday’s shooting marks BCSO’s 19th homicide of 2026 and its ninth family-related homicide of the year, per the sheriff’s office. By comparison, the agency investigated 15 homicides total in 2025, including seven classified as domestic violence-related, the station noted.
The numbers echo a broader trend documented across unincorporated Bexar County. As Texas Public Radio reported in September, the county had already recorded 18 homicides in unincorporated areas by September 17, surpassing all of 2025’s total. Sheriff Javier Salazar told the outlet that “18 homicides that we've dealt with on the law enforcement side of the house. Half of those (were) domestic violence-related and half of those (were) murder-suicides.”
A Separate Case Shows How Such Investigations Conclude
In a separate case on the Far West Side, the pattern Salazar described played out in full once investigators finished their work. Deputies were called to a home around 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 13 after a shooting was reported there, and found both people dead inside, according to News 4 San Antonio. Investigators believed those deaths were connected to domestic violence, per Salazar.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office later identified the woman in that case as Martha May Jr. and ruled her death a homicide caused by gunshot wounds, while the man, Rene May, died from an intraoral gunshot wound ruled a suicide. The medical examiner ultimately ruled both deaths a murder-suicide, according to the outlet’s report.
Countywide Numbers on Intimate-Partner Violence
Separately, countywide data released this month underscore how often domestic violence turns fatal in Bexar County. Thirteen people in the county were killed by an intimate partner in 2025, a decline from 17 in 2024, according to the Texas Council on Family Violence’s annual Honoring Texas Victims report, as cited by KSAT. Despite the drop, Bexar County still had the fourth-highest total of intimate-partner homicide deaths among Texas counties that year.
No case number, arrest information or medical examiner findings had been released for Sunday’s north Bexar County shooting as of this report. The investigation remains ongoing.
