North Charleston police are working an active investigation into a reported shooting along Ashley Phosphate Road, a busy commercial stretch lined with restaurants and shops. The early picture is far from complete, and the reports that have surfaced do not line up neatly on where or when it happened.
According to Live 5 News, the North Charleston Police Department is conducting an active investigation into a shooting that occurred Wednesday afternoon in the area of the 2100 block of Ashley Phosphate Road. That report said it remained unclear whether anyone was injured or whether any arrests had been made, and described the story as developing.
Count on 2 likewise reported that officers were actively investigating a reported shooting on Ashley Phosphate Road, placing it in the 2100 block. The outlet noted that police said the investigation was in its preliminary stages, so details were limited.
A Second Account Describes Two Victims, With Different Details
A separate report from ABC News 4 describes a shooting that left two people hurt and says units responded to the area of 2500 Ashley Phosphate Road around 4:40 p.m. That account called it late Monday afternoon, which conflicts with the Wednesday timing and the 2100 block location in the other reports. It is not clear from the available reporting whether these accounts describe the same incident, so the details below come with that caveat.
In that account, officers noticed multiple vehicles on Northside Drive with damage from gunfire. One officer rendered aid to a male victim and tried to stop the bleeding from a gunshot wound, and workers at a nearby Ruby Tuesday shouted that a second victim was in the restaurant's lobby.
Both victims were taken by EMS for further treatment, and their conditions were not known at the time of the report. Authorities were looking for several vehicles that left the area at a high rate of speed, and no arrests had been made.
Not the First Gunfire Along This Corridor
The stretch where Ashley Phosphate Road meets Northside Drive has seen similar violence before. The Post and Courier reported that two 19-year-old men were injured on Aug. 8, 2022, in a shooting outside two restaurants along Northside Drive off Ashley Phosphate Road. Both men were reported in stable condition the next morning, and no arrests had been made at that point.
In January 2025, a shooting occurred at a McDonald's on Ashley Phosphate Road. ABC News 4 later reported that North Charleston police charged 21-year-old Angelo Thompson with attempted murder in that case, and that he was booked at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
What Remains Unknown
For now, the reports leave the basics unsettled, including the exact location, the number of people hurt and their conditions. Police have not publicly released suspect descriptions or a motive in the material available. Because the investigation is described as preliminary, those details may shift as officers learn more.
