A 58-year-old man is facing multiple charges after Lee County deputies say he was caught filming strangers inside a restroom stall at a North Fort Myers truck stop, then found with methamphetamine, sex toys and a mask with holes cut into it. David Floyd was taken into custody at the Love's Travel Stop off Bayshore Road and I-75, where deputies say his phone told a disturbing story all on its own.
Dozens of Videos Found on Floyd's Phone
According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, deputies found dozens of videos on Floyd's phone showing him naked while sitting inside a restroom stall. Investigators say one clip showed Floyd holding his phone underneath and over the stall partition to record an individual in the neighboring stall, as reported by WINK News. Several other videos were found on his phone depicting similar content, deputies said.
Deputies ultimately arrested Floyd as he was walking away from the truck stop property along Bayshore Road. Investigators said the footage indicated Floyd appeared to be getting sexual gratification from recording others, the sheriff's office said.
Meth, a Modified Mask and a Glass Pipe
Beyond the recordings, the search turned up a collection of items deputies say raised further red flags. Deputies also found methamphetamine, sex toys, a mask with holes cut into it and a glass pipe in Floyd's possession, according to the same account. The combination of items, paired with the recorded footage, formed the basis for the charges deputies ultimately filed.
Floyd was arrested and is facing charges of digital voyeurism, possession of a controlled substance, and tampering with evidence, per the sheriff's office. The tampering charge adds another layer to a case already built largely around digital evidence pulled from his own device.
A Long Arrest History
This isn't Floyd's first encounter with law enforcement. Sheriff's office records show Floyd has been arrested 10 times since 1995, with charges including DUI and drug-related offenses, the report notes.
A man was accused of recording another man on his phone while he used a restroom at Florida Atlantic University, in a case reported in February 2025, according to CBS12. Separately, a Florida church overseer allegedly hid cameras in a bathroom and changing room, leading to video voyeurism charges after images were found on his laptop, as reported by Fox News.
It remains unclear how many people may have been recorded at the North Fort Myers truck stop or whether any of them have been identified. No court filings detailing the case's next steps have been made public.
