A 32-year-old man was killed early Monday after being struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Lankershim Boulevard and Sherman Way in North Hollywood, and the driver fled without stopping. Los Angeles police are now offering up to $50,000 for information that leads to the driver's identification, apprehension and conviction, or resolution through a civil compromise.
According to NBC Los Angeles, the collision was reported around 2:20 a.m. on Sherman Way west of Lankershim Boulevard, and authorities said the driver fled the scene in a light-colored SUV. A separate report from mynewsla.com placed the crash at about 2:20 a.m. at the intersection itself.
Accounts of the vehicle involved are consistent. NBC Los Angeles reported that investigators said the SUV may have been a yellow Jeep Wrangler traveling east on Sherman Way, and mynewsla.com also reported that it may have been a yellow Jeep Wrangler. mynewsla.com additionally reported that the vehicle struck the pedestrian as he was outside of a marked crosswalk.
What is consistent across accounts is that the driver did not stop. Police said the vehicle continued east on Sherman Way toward Lankershim Boulevard without the driver stopping to identify themselves or provide assistance, according to NBC Los Angeles. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene, per mynewsla.com's reporting.
Conflicting Reports on Victim's Identity
NBC Los Angeles reported that authorities had not released the victim's identity. However, mynewsla.com's report identified the victim as Ricardo Solis. The two accounts conflict, and this article presents both versions rather than choosing one.
LAPD's Valley Traffic Division is asking anyone with information to come forward. Witnesses can call Officer Lozon at 818-644-8117 or Officer Reyes at 818-644-8114, per mynewsla.com. The city's hit-and-run reward program, administered through the Los Angeles Police Department, offers up to $50,000 for information leading to the offender's identification, apprehension and conviction, or resolution through a civil compromise.
A Familiar Stretch of Road
This is not the first fatal hit-and-run LAPD has investigated along this North Hollywood corridor. In 2024, the department offered a similar $50,000 reward after an unidentified woman in her late 20s was struck and killed at a marked crosswalk at Victory Boulevard and Beck Avenue, as reported by the Los Angeles Times. And in June 2023, a pedestrian was struck and killed by a small light-blue SUV on Sherman Way west of Bellaire Avenue; detectives later sought the driver of a white minivan as a possible witness, according to LAPD's own newsroom account of that earlier case.
Part of a Larger Citywide Pattern
The North Hollywood case lands amid broader scrutiny of traffic safety enforcement across Los Angeles. From 2016 to 2023, the city's annual traffic death toll rose nearly 29% overall, while pedestrian deaths jumped roughly 54%, the Los Angeles Times reported in its examination of LAPD's traffic enforcement trends. The same reporting noted that LAPD made roughly 57% fewer vehicle stops in 2025 than in 2019, falling from about 713,000 stops to roughly 308,000, even as traffic tickets issued through July had climbed 44% over the prior year.
Citywide, traffic collisions killed 290 people in 2025, including more than 150 fatal collisions involving pedestrians, according to LAist. That total marked a 6% decrease from 2024, and the outlet reported Los Angeles is expected to roll out speed-safety cameras citywide later this year. Nationally, hit-and-run crashes accounted for 23.8% of all pedestrian fatalities in 2024, according to the Governors Highway Safety Association, which also found that light trucks — a category that includes SUVs — were the striking vehicle in 50.4% of pedestrian deaths that year.
No arrest has been reported in the North Hollywood case, and investigators have not said whether anyone has come forward with information. Anyone with details about the crash is urged to contact LAPD's Valley Traffic Division at the numbers listed above.
